You won't find too many Hollywood
action heroes continuing to kick ass when they're almost in their 70s. You'll
find even fewer who would survive being fed into a meat grinder by murderous
intergalactic scumdogs - actually, there's only one actor we can think of who
fits that bill, and that's Danny Trejo. A few weeks back, we caught up with
this career badass (and frequent Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino
collaborator) at the Rock & Shock horror convention in Worcester.
If you like J. R. R. Tolkien's high fantasy legendarium, you
can put one ring on it. But why even bother introducing The Hobbit? This is Laser Orgy. You read the books before there
were movies, you watched the movies before the newest movie, and, by the beard
of Tom Bombadil, you bow to no one. (Unless it's Viggo Mortensen in a towel.

HorrorHound Weekend -- recently held in Indianapolis -- is like summer camp for horror nerds:
thousands of terror aficionados congregate to meet creepy celebrities like Joe
Bob Briggs or Ted White (who played Jason in Friday
the 13th Part 4), buy a shitload of hard-to-find movie memoribilia, and
discus obscure rubber monster movies with people dressed like Freddy Krueger
and giant robots until 4:30 in the morning.
Two new fan films hit YouTube this past weekend. The first is a highly anticipated 12-minute fan film based on the video game series Half-Life, called Beyond Black Mesa. We here at Laser Orgy love Half-Life; we gave Half-Life 2 our top spot in the Laser Orgy 500, so you know we're serious. Commenters over at Kotaku panned this fan film for its "inaccurate" zombies, and I get what they're saying, but personally I see this film as more a tribute to the zombie shooter game genre as a whole rather than a fan's attempt at a flawless rendering of the Half-Life universe.

This past weekend, Arisia returned for its 22nd annual year. It's a sci-fi and fantasy convention that happens in Boston every year, and ... yes, this sounds familiar, doesn't it? Sounds a lot like Boskone, the sci-fi and fantasy convention that is slated to take place in the exact same location -- the Westin Boston Waterfront -- on February 18-20.
weekend, Rock and Shock invaded Worcester's DCU center and Palladium. For the uninitiated, Rock and Shock is a
unique experience: half horror convention, half kick-ass metal concert. I was there promoting Infinite Santa 8000, my
new animated web series about Santa Claus killing mutants in the year 8000 (no,
Harry vs. Luke: Which sparkly-stick wielding hero do you prefer?
Two heroic journeys go head to head this fall in theatres: George Lucas plans to re-release all six Star Wars films on 3-D, and the second-to-last Harry Potter film will be coming out in 3-D this fall as well. Forbes has already penned a post that pits the franchises against each other, pointing out that Harry Potter is edging up on Star Wars' current standing as richest franchise of all time.
We here at Laser Orgy consider ourselves experts on the behavior of
nerds on the internet, not least because we ourselves are nerds on the
internet. So when we saw the collective shackles raised in response to Peter Keough's review of the "dork-pandering" film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, we felt compelled to respond.
If you have played Oregon Trail at any point in your life (and, come on, of course you have), prepare to be hilarified by this epic trailer. Watch immediately and repeatedly.

Above, the new trailer for Tron Legacy. The film's a sequel to Tron, a cult classic about computers that came out 28 years ago. Yes, holy shit, 28 years ago. Jeff Bridges, who starred in Tron as programmer and arcade owner Flynn, was only 33 back then (and looked even younger). He'll be revisiting the role in Tron Legacy and using his Serious Actor Chops, for which he has recently been commended
Iron Man 2 pictures have been making the rounds. We've known about War Machine for a while, but now we finally get to see Scarlett Johanssen rocking red threads and a catsuit. People seem a lot more excited about her picture than the other three. Why on earth could that be?
The movie already had one cute redhead -- Pepper Potts, the Good Girl to Tony Stark's Bad Boy.
