Most of us are still recovering from yesterday's epic "First Contact" party -- the Phoenix's first-ever Austin day show -- but here's some highlights, with much more to come:
It’s time to paint a giant spoked “B” in front of the “Austin” city-limits sign.
Joining the massive influx of Boston peeps, bands, and music geeks headed down to SXSW next week, the Boston Phoenix, WFNX, Allston rock club Great Scott, and Boston-based promotions company Pirate have teamed up to present “FIRST CONTACT,” a free day party at Klub Krucial in downtown Austin this Wednesday, March 16 (noon to 6 pm).
Can you feel the magic in the air? We're one week away from the launch of our FIRST CONTACT series, a collabo collabo between the Boston Phoenix, Great Scott, WFNX, and Pirate Promotion. Going to Austin for SXSW? If so, RSVP to our EventBrite, and show the love via Facebook. But remember, this party is FREE to all who are wandering up and down 6th Street in Texas' finest city. Rock.
Fuck yeah -- Allston punk trio YOUNG ADULTS, who launched their debut video just last week and anchored our Class of 2011 feature back in January, have been added to our Austin party next Wednesday, March 16.
First Contact, presented by the Phoenix, WFNX, Great Scott and Pirate Promotion, now features: DOM, HOORAY FOR EARTH, EUGENE MIRMAN, GIRLFRIENDS, YOUNG ADULTS, THE GOOD NATURED, THE SEEDY SEEDS and FUNERAL PARTY
We had so much fun at SXSW last year that we're going back again. And this time we're going even harder in the paint -- and throwing a party of our own. If you're headed down to Austin, join us on Wednesday, March 16 from noon to 6 pm at Klub Krucial, 612 East 6th Street (next door to the legendary Austin concert hall Emo's).
Saturday's Young Adults' 12-inch release party at Great Scott felt like one of two things, maybe even both: a changing of the guard in the Boston scene, or just a really cool garage rock show where everyone got shithammered and reveled in the notion that all four bands on the bill could have headlined. Doesn't matter, anyway.
