It’s time to paint a giant spoked “B” in front of the “Austin” city-limits sign.
Joining the massive influx of Boston peeps, bands, and music geeks headed down to SXSW next week, the Boston Phoenix, WFNX, Allston rock club Great Scott, and Boston-based promotions company Pirate have teamed up to present “FIRST CONTACT,” a free day party at Klub Krucial in downtown Austin this Wednesday, March 16 (noon to 6 pm). The joint is located right next door to legendary rock club Emo’s, in the heart of Sixth Street.
Free to everyone over the age of 21, the party features a mix of Bay State and national acts. Repping Massachusetts proud are DOM, HOORAY FOR EARTH, YOUNG ADULTS, and the winner of “Best Rock Band” at last year’s Boston Music Awards, GIRLFRIENDS. Somerville’s own EUGENE MIRMAN, he of HBO’s Flight of the Conchords and Fox animated series Bob’s Burgers, provides intermission entertainment with a stand-up appearance we’re debating whether to call “Nine Minutes and 55 Seconds of Eugene Mirman’s Time, and Not a God-Damn Second Longer.” That shit has a nice ring to it.
On the national tip, we’re excited to have Los Angeles dance sensations FUNERAL PARTY — check out the blistering rock track “NYC Moves to the Sound of LA” right now — and Cincinnati electronic indie-pop trio THE SEEDY SEEDS, who earlier in the week dropped by Great Scott.
For some British flavor, we’re also joined by electro-pop princess THE GOOD NATURED, the about-to-explode synth-pop project from 20-year-old wunder-pixie Sarah McIntosh. UK smash hit “Be My Animal” could do for the Good Natured what “Bulletproof” did for La Roux.
So if you’re down in Austin next week, knock back a few Lone Stars with us at Klub Krucial. First Contact is a FREE party and you don't need a badge or wristband to get in! All you've gotta do is RSVP at our Eventbrite page. And hey brah, we'd also be stoked if you helped us spread the word on Facebook.
