Nearly a year after Ayad from Passion Pit told me to check out THE JOY FORMIDABLE, the first band he signed to his NYC-based Black Bell boutique record label, I finally had a chance to see the Welsh noise-rock trio in live action last night at Allston's Brighton Music Hall. The Joy Formidable are, quite simply, a sonic tornado, as evidenced here in this nearly-8-minute-long phlipcam clip of current single "Whirring." Shit pretty much goes off the rails but not really, a blitzkrieg of beats and distortion wrapped up nicely in a pop M-80, and the buzzing sound you may hear in the background is everyone's faces melting off. If you hit this show up because I babbled on about it Monday morning on WFNX, well, you're welcome. Still on a high from it all.
Also, a note to the Sunset Grill & Tap on Brighton Avenue: your fine establishment impressed the hell out of Ritzy Bryan and the boys with your wealth of beer options. They were actually overwhelmed by it all. Carry on.
