[crazy art] Lovesick Cafe @ Orchard Skate Shop
On Saturday night the Extension Gallery at ORCHARD SKATE SHOP will transform into the “Lovesick Cafe,” a twisted sculpture exhibit (made entirely from found-wood) populated by nameless, oblong creatures with wood-shingled fur and inquisitive eyes, all of varying posture and disposition. The cafe’s menu: caricatured, life-size humanoid figures, which we’re told to believe are clubbed and dragged to the center of the restaurant by the establishment’s knee-high wait-staff for the feasting pleasure of the clientele. And even with the exhibit's devilish undertone, the creatures remain cute, nearly adorable and totally excusable for all wrongs they may commit throughout the course of their existence. I understand they're eating person, but with anime-sized eyes, bunches of pastel "fur" and spindly necks craning ever-upwards, the urge to hug them all is difficult to subdue.
The exhibit is created by Boston-based art-collective !ND!V!DUALS (there’s no I in individual...or team...or something), and will run from March 5 through April 3. The above video is a teaser for a longer documentary to be released in the coming weeks.
