Tuesday Ticket Alert coming soon
1. Newsflash: while we were off putting out a newspaper and neglecting planet blog, the world continued to spin on its axis. The computer-literati continue to post clever trivia questions, not to mention songs from records that may or may not be out yet. Like Ryan Adams dueting with Norah Jones. And Kanye reuniting with Mike Meyers. And Kanye with that dude from Maroon Five. And Houston dudes chopping and screwing K-otix's Kanye Katrina remix. And Final Fantasy remixing that Boston kid Grizzly Bear. And new Joe Budden joints. And Dios Malos videos. And essential tracks by grindcore legends Repulsion. Oh, also, the new Strokes song leaked, and already there's a mashup. Actually, there's probably like 50 mashups, but this is the one Stereogum linked. See, we weren't sleeping . . . we just weren't sharing. And that's just wrong. But we did slip you the new Damone song, and we've got a Scissorfight tune coming as soon as we figure out how to make m4a's into mp3s. Anyone got a converter? Holla?
2. This is how they do in the UK these days: the first single from the Darkness's new Roy Thomas Baker-produced album One Way Ticket to Hell . . . And Back is out now . . . but only as a ringtone. The song also debuts on the radio today, which means crappy analog rips should be along any second now.
3. Per news that will be dropping overhead in about 30 seconds, we're jumping on Lady Sovereign's charity bandwagon: save the hoodie!
4. New video by them Receiving End of Sirens kids via Rucker's new Boston punk/hardcore blog, Jawnbreaker.
5. "George Bush!" Youngbloodz feat Akon, "Presidential (Remix)" (mp3).
6. Once upon a time, some guy told us we should listen to the blues. We thought of the Blues Brothers and Eric Clapton and thought, "Why the fuck'd we wanna do that?" Then the dude played us Son House's "Death Letter," and it changed our life. These things happen: sometimes one song is all it takes. We've sorta been realizing every since "House of Jealous Lovers" and "Losing My Edge" that at some point we were gonna need a primer in house music, but were afraid we'd buy the wrong one and end up listening to the cheesy stuff they played at Avalon while we were mopping the floors there in the early '90s. Leave it to Stylus Magazine to hip us to the record(s) we've been looking for: they've even thrown up some mp3s from it.
