You can't not love Darkbuster. It just isn't allowed. So our hearts go out to LennyLashley's middle finger, which has definitely gotten more usage over the years than your average digit. On the upside, maybe now they can cover that Konks song "29 Fingers" (uh, 39 fingers? 49?). Which, in hindsight, makes Brett's article pretty creepily prophetic.

    1. Before we get to Cave In: If you've been listening to the radio lately you may have heard a Dropkick Murphys song called "Sunshine Highway." It's a SINGLE, people, and sunny choruses are what singles are for. We just want to emphasize: The Warrior's Code is mostly not like that. Proof:

Dropkick Murphys, "The Auld Triangle" (link page to mp3, via Epitaph)

    TONIGHT:
Kirsten Malone benefit with USAISAMONSTER and Tunnel of Love (we posted a few mp3s for TOL not too long ago; and they're coming soon to a Phoenix music section near you this Thursday); also, Badass Teenage Mustache.

We Eat So Many Shrimp appreesh part 2 (uh, part one over here if you missed it): check out Emil's blend-tastic mix (including JJ Fad/ESG, Crime Mob/LeTigre, Nina Sky/Interpol, Modest Mouse/Young Gunz, plenty more madness.

It seemed like it took forever for episode III to come, as we wondered how our Dark Knight would turn out. No, not talking about Vader. Talking R. Kelly, bitches. By now OTD assumes everyone on the planet has heard about R.'s five-part serial/soap-opera/singles series "Trapped in the Closet"; if not, catch up on it in this week's Phoenix.

    1. Metal militia, STAND UP: there can only be maybe six people left who care about Laaz Rockit, but damn, OTD had their '87-or-so albums on Enigma back in high school, and that was OUR SHIT. Pretty sure they were one of those glam bands who hopped on the Bay Area thrash bandwagon two weeks after Master of Puppets came out. And they had that whole Rambo-metal thing going on that was, even in 1987, already way too 1985

    1. Who Mike Jones?

    2. Who Chris Nelson?

    Lemon-Red, don't hurt 'em . . .

    3. In other news, "famous blogger" and New Yorker critic Sasha Frere-Joneseases our minds by assuring readers that our own Nick Sylvester is NOT A STALKER!

    TONIGHT:
    Glass Candy, Juliette Lewis.

Not sure, but we think Jason Newsted's torso is inside.

    1. Continuing Camille's thread from the other day, more beef, please:

    - Sleater-Kinney calls out Interpol in this week's Phoenix. (Hey, if S-K wants to come play Best Music Poll, we can settle this next week once and for all. Sub Pop: make it happen!)

    Breaking news . . .

Honeypump Board is dead. Demise ruled "accidental." Natives skeptical. Years of smartassery and double-secret inside jokes erased!

Ben Sisto commandeers the enemy's megaphone, rallies the troops. Reassurance: your usernames are toast, but my email's OK!

Dazed Allston hipsters, suddenly alone in the universe and deprived of an outlet for their immense postiveness and clever-tude -- not to mention a place to plug their gigs -- annoy

    1. Since the Decemberists tumble into Avalon tonight (five/six piece from Portland, Oregon? they sing about waifs?), we’d like to inform you that Colin Meloy is an indie-rock heartthrob, just in case you didn’t read it here and here and then here again. Some outtakes from a wintry conversation we had with Mr.

Recycling last month's post because no one was reading then, anyway, and tonight they're actually IN COUNTRY:

Les Breastfeeders: video worth checking out because of the dude with the weird chest hair who wears ape arms and climbs out of suitcases in the middle of the avenue and whose role in the band appears to be limited to playing tambourine and making French-type you-all-vant-to-have-sex-vith-me faces.

We smell a new rock beef. Sleater-Kinney’s The Woods officially dropped today (remember when release dates actually mattered?) and during press interviews for the new record, Carrie Brownstein’s been dissing Interpol harder than the Brandon Flowers blasting the Bravery. What, was Carlos D. in a ska band too? Nope, says Carrie B.

Damn, almost forgot: some band called the Gorillaz is in town tonight. Damon/Jamie/Mouse action around 7:30 at Newbury Comix to sign the brand-spanking-new record, then FNX/Phoenix-sponsored jumpoff at Bill's Bar around 10:30-ish, where the boys behind the toons will partying with our boys Will Spitz and Paul Driscoll.

Mumbles proclaimed it U2 day in Boston. We're still trying to figure out how that makes today different from every other day. You'd think they were Dropkick Murphys or something, the way people suddenly turn Irish for these dudes.

Just to be on the safe side -- not like tickets weren't sold out like ten years ago -- the opening band is holding off on putting their Avalon show on-sale until after the circus has left town.
