MassGOP Chaos! Jody Dow Bows Out; Kerry Healey Steps Up

I've written lately about the shake-up in the Massachusetts Republican Party. Well, it just shook some more -- a lot more. The MassGOP's longtime national committeewoman Jody Dow dropped out today in her bid for re-election. Dow had not run for her state committee seat in March (won by Lisa Barstow), but was still planning to be re-elected by the members to her national committee position. Apparently, that didn't come together -- my understanding is that Chanel Prunier, a young, Central-Massachusetts activist with support from many of the newer, anti-establishment Republicans, is running for the spot (perhaps among others). And now, Dow has stepped aside and endorsed the super-establishment former lieutenant governor Kerry Healey for the position.

Dow sent the following email to Republican State Committee members today:

Dear State Committee Member,

I have had a chance to speak with many of you in recent weeks about my candidacy for National Committeewoman.  I’ve enjoyed these conversations and am grateful for those of you who expressed your support for me.

Today, I am ending my campaign for re-election for National Committeewoman.  It has been an honor for me to serve you as National Committeewoman, including serving as Vice Chairman of the Northeast Region and on the National Executive Committee.  I will continue to work on organizing a successful 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, and I look forward to seeing many of you there.  I will also remain active to ensure all of our candidates succeed in 2012.

As you may have heard by now, former Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey has announced that she is running for National Committeewoman.  This is an important election year for our Party; we will have candidates from state representative to president who will need our support.  Kerry’s strong relationships with Governor Mitt Romney and U.S. Senator Scott Brown, as well as her experience as a candidate and party chairman, make her ideal to lead us to victory in November.

I have known Kerry for a long time, and I know she will make an exceptional National Committeewoman.  Therefore, I ask you to join me in supporting Kerry Healey as our National Committeewoman on Thursday, April 5th.

Thank you for your friendship and partnership over the past 16 plus years. It has been such a pleasure to work with each of you.  Please stay in touch!

Sincerely,

Jody Dow
