Talk about legacy: Joseph Kearns Goodwin is seriously considering running for state senate, according to several sources.

Goodwin, a former Army captain, is currently a second-year student at Harvard Law School. He worked on Steve Pagliuca's gubernatorial campaign, and recently married political flack Victoria Bonney, as you might have seen featured in the New York Times.

And yes, mom would be ubiquitous Pulitzer-prize-winning local legend Doris Kearns Goodwin, and dad would be JFK speechwriter Richard Goodwin.

He would be running in the open 3rd Middlesex district, where Democrat Susan Fargo is not seeking re-election. There is already a crowded field forming -- and no apparent clearing of the field for Kearns Goodwin. Congressman Barney Frank is supporting Michael Barrett, and I've been told that Congressman Michael Capuano plans to support Mara Dolan.
