It looks like some Boston suburbanites will have a chance to vote for (or against) a scion of the Timilty political clan as well as one from the Kennedy line. Bart Timilty of West Roxbury is running for Governor's Council, in the district represented by his sister Kelly Timilty until she died in January.
"I haven't made a formal announcement yet, but I am definitely in the race," Timilty told me today. He has just opened a campaign account to begin raising money.
Timilty says that his experience with offenders, in adult education and a recidivism-reduction program, would provide a new perspective on the council, which confirms judicial appointments.
Bart, 32, is the youngest of five children of Joseph F. Timilty, former state senator and Boston city councilor; his older brother James is a state senator from Walpole, his uncle Walter is Norfolk County Clerk of Courts, and his cousin Walter is a state representative from Milton. I think I got all that right; someone will let me know what I botched. Further back in the family there was a police commissioner, and another one for whom the Timilty School in Roxbury is named.
