Mike Ross Ends Congressional Bid

Boston City Councilor Mike Ross, who had opened an exploratory committee to consider running for Congress, in the district where Barney Frank is retiring, announced today that he has decided against running. He will remain in his current council seat, which he has held for 12 years.

Ross was the last significant Democratic pol known to be looking at that race, since Joseph Kennedy III announced his interest in running.

It's a tough blow for Ross, who is widely considered to have aspirations for higher office. Opportunities have been slim, and Ross showed some gumption by moving quickly on this one. Now that it has snapped shut on him, you have to wonder how much longer he will want to continue on the city council.

As for the Congressional race, it looks more and more like JKIII's for the taking. You can read my article about him in the latest issue: America's Next Top Kennedy.
