Boston Accents 10.16.11: Young London, Vary Lumar, SPF 5000, Muck + the Mires, Fat Creeps, Mean Creek, Yale MA +++

Another episode of BOSTON ACCENTS is in the books, we opened with some neon pop bangers, got our rock and roll on, dipped into the gritty garage circles, danced with street punk, and closed out with a house track. Z'how it goes on the BA, every Sunday night from 8 to 10pm on WFNX 101.7 FM and wfnx.net. Listen up, get down.

YOUNG LONDON, “Let Me Go” -– Boston’s new pop explosion! A few weeks ago I asked “Can Young London break Old Boston?” and the techno-pop duo seem ready. Their video for this track has more than 15,000 views since it was posted earlier this month. They're are at the Middle East for Thursday’s Glow Boston Masquerade, and might, oh just might, be in Thursday's Phoenix.

CASEY DESMOND, “Talking To God” -– Our current Mp3 of the Week in the Phoenix, I have it on good authority this jam destroyed two dance floors, one in Allston and one in Cambridge, at two separate dance parties this past weekend. On fire.

YES GIANTESS, “Ruins” -– Continuing with the pop intro, dusted off this old(-ish) school electro-pop gem from 2007 or so; keyboardist Chase Nicholl now plays in Secret Music, based in NYC.

GLASS T33TH, “Dead Dreamer” -– The CDR release from July is really all you need this October. Look for a feature on Xavier of Glass T33th in the Oct. 27 issue of the Phoenix. http://glasst33th.bandcamp.com/

DIRTY VIRGINS, “I Like You” -– Allston lads at PAs Lounge November 5, and then at Church on November 27 for a bill that should be sponsored by Boston Accents, with the Fagettes and New Highway Hymnal. Yowza.

FAT CREEPS, “Nancy Drew” -- Played last Friday at Massaqoit Hall in Cambridge, Mick Murray braved the youth brigade and captured some great video. VERY intrigued by these lazy-pop ladies.

MEAN CREEK, “No One Has To Know” -– Currently recording follow-up to January’s Hemophiliac EP, playing a killer locals-only show Friday at Brighton Music Hall with Young Adults, Age Rings, and...

STATIC OF THE GODS, “Hauntings” – Also on that sweet BMH bill, this track was a former Mp3 of the Week. I might just be crazy (likely the case) but this track makes me think, see, and dream of the color GREEN. No idea why. Fucked up.

THE NEW HIGHWAY HYMNAL, “Blackened Hands” -– North of Boston bluesy garage rock terrors doing the residency thing every Tuesday night at Precinct through October, last week it kicked off like a beast with the December Sound and Lenka, tomorrow night it continues with Plumerai, Karen Zanes and more.

SOCCER MOM, “(A) Natural History” – Playing the aforementioned Precinct this Saturday with Cooling Towers, the Hush Now and more, basking in the glow of latest EP, the critically-acclaimed You Are Not Going To Heaven.

THE STERNS, “The Space Race Goes On” – It's the return of the Sterns this Friday at the Pill at Great Scott, and I’m honored to host the return of one of Boston’s finest indie-pop bands of the 2000s. Made this Mp3 of the Week in the Phoenix when it was quietly released back in March.

ST HELENA, “California” – Playing Radio on Saturday October 22 alongside the Grownup Noise, Highly Personal Trash, and Slow Runner (also meant to play a Grownup Noise track here but we rans out of timezz).

HOUR 2 OH YEAH WHERE DOES THE TIME GO?!

NIGHT FRUIT, “Sea Blood” -– Teaming up with Left Hand Does for a set as the Cure at one of the many Halloween covers shows this season around town, but this one’s early: Friday, October 21 at Radio

VARY LUMAR, “EMT Love” -– Hosting the Eclectic Homebrew two-stage live showcase Saturday night at the Middle East in Cambridge, with Camden, Totem, All Ecgoes Return, Jen from Static of the Gods, and these guys...

ENDLESS WAVE, “The Rising Tide” -– Also on the Eclectic Homebrew bill, and also performing as Ride at the Pill Halloween show (10/28). This track, with its killer bassline, is off their latest record, Notes from the Compound.

ORCA ORCA, “Change of Pace” -– This could be the Mp3 of the Week in this Thursday’s Phoenix, whooo knooows? What we do know is that Jim Hewitt’s Orca Orca project will be at O’Brien’s Pub in Allston this Sunday, which also kinda SUCKS because I will be locked in the WFNX studio in Lynn missing the band’s debut performance. First world possums.

DAMONE, “Out Here All Night” -– Classic track from Waltham power-pop kids, been playing mad Organ Beats lately so I wanted to keep it real with some OG goodness.

THICK SHAKES, “Go Back To New York” -– Shimmy and shake with the thicks and the thin, and yes, go the eff back to New York. Brah.

MUCK + THE MIRES, “King of the Beat” -– Lead track off fresh as a daisy new record A Cellarful of Muck, yes, Boston’s gritty garage rock veterans are back in action, and the record is released at TT The Bear’s in Cambridge on November 18. Got some time to plan for that one – but I got the CD just today and wanted to play it.

HAVE NOTS, “Louisville Slugger” –- Amazing song and amazing video, this one shot by Mike Gill, who earlier this week captured a 10-minute MUST WATCH documentary on Occupy Boston. Required viewing.

STREETS DOGS, “In Defense of Dorchester” -– Hell, just played the Have Nots, so Street Dogs seemed like a reasonable follow-up.

YALE MA, “Danger City Population Me” –- Featuring The Rog (Appreciation Post/Pretty & Nice), Yale MA is doing the EP release thing next month, but they are at O’Brien’s in Allston tomorrow night, woohoo.

MATTY J OF THE BYNARS, “Nothing Left To Give (For Mikey)” -– Last week we kicked things off with a tribute to Mikey Welsh (RIP), but when Matt of the Bynars heard the news, he created his own tribute, and presented us with this song.

LEISURE, “Green Light” -- The second track we've spun off the three-song Plastic Soul record.

SPF 5000, “Paraiso” -- Debut spin from Somerville's dance crew. This new one off Nervous Records' got some Latin house flavor, and the fucker is SEVEN minutes long. Yeah, we played the whole thing. Boom.
