Boston does Christmas: Jenny Dee & the Deelinquents cover Hank Ballard's "Santa Claus Is Coming" and Darlene Love's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

Jenny Dee & the Deelinquents, Santa Claus Is Coming (Live at Arlington Regent, 2009)

For those of us who still consider the Phil Spector Christmas album to be the season's gold standard, JENNY DEE & THE DEELINQUENTS are the greatest thing since mistletoe. Jen D'Angora has been catching comparisons to the Ronettes since she was in garage-punk bands, and now that she's fronting a straight-up throwback soul revue, the effect is uncanny. After the jump, check out the Deelinquents take on Darlene Love's classic "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" and you'll see what we mean.

But we like it even better when they're digging an unjustly forgotten holiday tune out of the closet and flipping it into silver and gold. That's what's up on their cover of Hank Ballard's "Santa Claus Is Coming" -- not to be confused with that hoary old "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town." You can see 'em do a live version by clicking on the video above; or look out below to download the studio version that they're giving away as their Christmas present to you.
