Sunset Rubdown

The best of what we've heard lately...

Papercuts, "You Can Have What You Want" (mp3)
Devin King's review pretty well covers it: the album is not supremely original, but also impossible to stop listening to once it's got its hooks in you. They open for Vetiver at Harpers Ferry on May 6.

Wye Oak, "Take It In" (mp3)
Our pick for the best new band from Maryland from about a year ago; now they're back. They play TT's on May 14.

Sunset Rubdown, "Idiot Heart" (mp3)
Canadian band debut a new song via P4K, play the Middle East on June 11.

Pink Mountaintops, "Vampire" (mp3)
This other project of Black Mountain's Stephen McBeam takes a look at his quieter side, although it's still informed by psychedelia and - we assume - drugs. They play TT's June 4.

Deer Tick, "Easy" (mp3)
The first song we've heard from the now-quartet's anticipated new release Born on Flag Day; read more here. See them at Harpers Ferry next week. Otherwise you'll have to wait until they come back opening for Jenny Lewis.
