Globe management to keep making less

So says a recent, no-nonsense memo from outgoing publisher Steve Ainsley. Five percent less, to be precise--so they're still doing a bit better than their unionized colleagues:

Dear Colleagues,

We are in the final stages of completing the 2010 budget and have carefully reviewed our revenue and expense estimates for the year ahead.

As part of this process we have reached the decision not to reinstate any portion of the 5% salary rollback for exempt personnel which was instituted earlier this year.  This decision applies to all exempt personnel at The Boston Globe and boston.com.

This decision was made by us as a necessary step in meeting our financial goals in 2010.
