Munjoy bails - again
It's the start of the baseball season, so let's refresh: Three strikes and you're out. Let's hope this means we've seen the back of a vindictive pseudonymous blogger whose rantings have become less credible and more personal over the past few months.
Those of us who have been watching the blogosphere coverage of the pseudonymous "Thomas Cushing Munjoy" can chalk up yet another moment in the quitter's poker that he's been playing. Today's post admits that he has been in Oklahoma for the past eight weeks, and he says he's stopping his yammering.
This is the third time Munjoy has claimed he was done. First was in March 2008, when he decided to wait for new owners to step in.
But he - or someone using the same e-mail address and a decidedly more aggressive tone - was unable to stay out of the game for long. He started a new blog in November 2008. Then, on February 23, he decided that the new owners were so close to closing the deal that his "next post will coincide with Richard L.
Connor's assumption of the ownership/leadership of Maine's largest –
and once-respected – newspaper group."
But then on March 12, he was back. (Of course the deal hadn't come through yet - it still hasn't, and may never.) He sort of explained himself in a mea culpa posting on March 14, but, by our calculations, he had been in Oklahoma for more than a month.
Munjoy, your best days are far behind you. You'd no doubt say the same about the Press Herald. But please consider taking some of your own advice. Best of luck with the Oklahoman, and don't forget to check out the alt-weekly, the Oklahoma Gazette.
