Politics and other mistakes
Discussing politics is a lot less fun than getting drunk. Two recent books, both collections of previously published material, demonstrate this axiom to perfection.
Means higher taxes, or rent, for Portland
During the Legislature’s opening day this month, I was eager to know what would be the Big Thing of the session. In a gubernatorial election year, I figured it would have a strong political coloration. “The big thing is the repeal of the business equipment tax,” a state rep told me. “It’s Baldacci’s big thing. It’s an election year, and we’ve all got to get behind him on this.”
Lost on Liftoff’s debut launch is on course
Lost on Liftoff’s self-titled debut EP has no business being released in the dead of winter. The bright heat it radiates only makes us pine for the warmth of summer rays all the more.

The first week of December marked the opening of a new hot spot to eat in the East End of Portland. The Front Room, located on Congress Street across from the St. Lawrence Church, has been booming with business for its first month or so.

State House Dems don't get mad, they get even.
Gateway Mastering girds for Grammys; Jon Nolan recognized; 2nd Annual New England Punk, Goth, and Metal Fest
Boreal Tordu show a little historical perspective isn’t better off dead
