Wanderlust has been biting Boston's young songwriters. This past May, Soltero dude Tim Howard and Carolyn “Cubby” Berk ditched their sometime backing bands and went on a sullen-songwriter solo tour. Now that they're back, we find out that Howard moves to Philly at the end of this month, while Lovers’s cutie Cubby will defect to Portland, Oregon. -

But if you haven't already, RUN DON'T WALK over there to catch the inaugural mix by DJ/Rupture, the ex-Cantabrigian ex-Toneburst glitch/ragga/mash genius now exiled in Spain. (We've got Spain on the brain, 'cause some dudes from Barcelona are working on some fireworks for next Phoenix issue: prepare to be dazzled.

Blanche at TT's.
Many snowstorms ago, we trekked down to TT’s to ease our whiskey-spiked wintry blues with a coupla Kills. One of VV and Hotel’s openers was Blanche, this inauspicious country-fried fivesome fronted by a husband-and-wife duo: a sleek-suited dude who looked like Lyle Lovett’s clear-skinned cousin, along with a porcelian-doll version of Lovett’s fire-engine-redhead ex-wife. -
Yes, the LCD Soundsystem/M.I.A. show was as good as billed: destruction at both ends of the bill. (If y'all are nice to Cami, maybe she can dig around and find out if Amy's photos are in yet.) But, uh, the big question on everyone's mind seemed to be: what happened to Diplo? Maya introduced the guy-who-looked-like-Diplo-and-played-dude's-records as their "new addition," pretty sure by name of DJ Contra.

Dresden Dolls were headlining, but Amanda Palmer wasn't taking any chances about being the absolute center of attention: yes, that was Amanda streaking in FULL NUDITY across the Avalon stage during Kaiser Chiefs set, leaving FNX music director Paul Driscoll holding her bathrobe, jumping on singer Ricky Wilson, and then rushing into a waiting robe held by her tour manager.

Sort of going through Best Music Poll-hype-exhaustion over here. Seriously, though, for those of us who remember what the FNX show looked like a few years ago, this year's edition is a really, really, really, really good thing. -
Lords of Dogtown: nice movie, won't disappoint fans of the documentary, only one small qualm. Rise Against doing Black Flag's "Nervous Breakdown"? Sounds plausible, until you see it. So, um, maybe someone shoulda listened to this version:

You can't not love Darkbuster. It just isn't allowed. So our hearts go out to LennyLashley's middle finger, which has definitely gotten more usage over the years than your average digit. On the upside, maybe now they can cover that Konks song "29 Fingers" (uh, 39 fingers? 49?). Which, in hindsight, makes Brett's article pretty creepily prophetic.
