Q&A #9 -- 2011 Council Race

Hope you're all enjoying Ask Me Anything Day as much as I am! Up next, yet another municipal query -- who says nobody cares about city politics anymore? "Kyle R." asks:

Looking forward to 2011, do you think any of the at-large candidates are positioning themselves for a 2011 district run? Also, if Yoon and/or Flaherty don't win this year do you think either or both of them runs at-large in 2011?

The answer to the second question is no. Either, or both, might run for mayor again in 2013. But not council. (Good Lord, who would go back to the Boston City Council after they've managed to get out?)

As to the first question, I don't think any of them are "positioning" themselves for 2011, but there will be a bunch out of this crop who will be in fine shape to run again -- particularly at the district level. A lot of that depends on what councilors are not running for re-election that year. For instance, I believe there are candidates in this crop who live in Maureen Feeney's or Charles Yancey's districts, who would make great candidates if either of those two was not running in 2011.
