Stop daydreaming at work and eat a croissant

Close your eyes. You've just spent a dewy morning on the Swiss slopes, and settle in at your châlet to a hot mug of fresh coffee, crackly bread that steams when you rip into it, and a delicately spun croissant with layers of fluffy pastry wrapped around a gooey almond center. You're probably wearing a very thick, woolen sweater with some sort of woodland animal on it.

Open your eyes. Still in your cubicle? Damn, us too. Sorry about that.

Now that we've thoroughly depressed you, here's some good news: Reading's own swissbäkers, bearers of legit Swiss pastries and bread, are celebrating three years of homey baked goods and fantastic pretzel bread sandwiches tomorrow, March 7, and in classic hospitable Swiss fashion, they're giving you gifts. Foremost on this list of goodies is the chance to live out your châlet daydream: a week in Silvaplana, Switzerland, or a week split between Grindelwald and Melchnau. And all you have to do is eat fabulous pastries and enter your name! Genius!

The party will be last during their regular business hours, 5:30am-2pm. If at any point you feel the need to escape your work to-do list and seek refuge in a little Massachusetts pocket of Switzerland, the Stohr family has you covered.

Plus, word on the street is that swissbäkers will be opening an Allston location this summer. Stay tuned for updates!

swissbäkers Reading is located at 32 Lincoln St., Reading. 781.942.1199 or for more information.
