Oxy Morons Screening This Saturday at Royale (WIN FREE TIXX)
As some readers might remember,
earlier this year I dropped a bomb on Boston with an article about former Charlestown drug dealer turned federal informant turned filmmaker Johnny Hickey. His is without a doubt one of the most compelling stories I've ever covered - a statement on the hell that opiate abuse has brought on Massachusetts families, and a raucous roller-coaster ride in its own right.
At the time my article came out, Hickey short-released his film,
Oxy Morons, at Showcase Cinemas in Revere, where it went on to be the second highest grossing movie for more than a month. He's also done a number of festivals and been featured in a Current TV documentary, but has yet to release anything on DVD, making Saturday's screening at Royale a highly anticipated party to say the least.
Before the movie - at around 7:30pm - I'll be conducting a Q&A with Hickey. There will also be popcorn and drinks courtesy of Heineken and Absolute, plus chairs brought in to turn Roayle into a sit-down theater for a few hours. Great time guaranteed. If you haven't seen Oxy Morons yet, take my word for it - this is a film that no Masshole should miss.
