[nickTunes] Fuck yeah: the face-bashing trailer for RZA's kung fu movie has arrived
Holy shit. The Man With The Iron Fists -- the long-gestating collaboration between Quentin Tarantino, Boston-based Bear Jew Eli Roth, and RZA -- had its first red-band trailer released the other day, and it sure as fuck looks like the logical endpoint for all things WU TANG CLAN. Watch the eye-popping (I am certaintly not the first person to make that joke) teaser below, once you've fully digested the image up top. Yes, that is RZA punching an eyeball out of that dude's face.
Here's the film's official synopsis (via Collider) "Since his arrival in China’s Jungle Village, the town’s blacksmith (RZA) has been forced by radical tribal factions to create elaborate tools of destruction. When the clans’ brewing war boils over, the stranger channels an ancient energy to transform himself into a human weapon. As he fights alongside iconic heroes and against soulless villains, one man must harness this power to become savior of his adopted people."
Apparently they left out that there's a dude who looks like a gold version of Colossus from X-Men, but that's OK.
RZA's Hollywood output has increased exponentially since he was tapped to score Tarantino's Kill Bill a few years back, and he continously became the best part of anything he was in, like Repo Men and Judd Apatow's Funny People. This is his first project as director, aside from his albums, which he has claimed to have "made like movies." It's a pretty natural fit for him, and it sure looks like the bug-fucking-crazy movie we all imagined when listening to his music at its best (the original cut of the movie was FOUR HOURS LONG, by the way). I'm sure a lot of people are going to look at this trailer and go "What the fuck? Russell Crowe?", but even that has an explaination -- both starred in Ridley Scott's American Gangster and apparently bonded over music and stuff -- and I think his presence makes things even more ridiculous.
Either way, this shit looks to be cray, and the soundtrack especially so. As the trailer mentions, new tracks from The Black Keys, Kanye West, and Wiz Khalifa will be appearing in the film, so there's definitely that to be excited for too. You can bet every movie theater showing this will smell like bong water for at least a month, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
The Man With the Iron Fists will be released sometime in the next year.
