[mp3] Matty J of the Bynars 'Nothing Left Inside' (For Mikey Welsh)
The reaction to the passing of MIKEY WELSH was swift and immediate this past weekend. Social networking sites quickly spread the news of the 40-year-old artist and musician's unexpected death shortly after he was found in a Chicago hotel room Saturday afternoon, and online reactions and tributes began filtering in from Boston and beyond. In addition to his work as a prolific painter and creative artist, his stint in Weezer and long-gone Boston bands like Heretix, Left Nut, and Jocobono helped shape a legacy through music.
When Matty J of Boston indie rock quartet the Bynars heard the news, he couldn't shake Welsh from his thoughts. After a brief time internalizing his emotions, Matty turned to music, and quickly wrote "Nothing Left Inside" in memory of the departed.
On Sunday afternoon, Matty passed along the track, with the following words:
"So bummed on the news about Mikey Welsh. I sat down today to write some music and couldn't think about much else. I ended up writing this song with him in mind. I ripped the verse lyrics and melody from Carole King's "So Far Away" but the rest is all me... Weezer & so much of the music/bands Mikey played in have been a huge part of my life & music, and a huge influence on The Bynars.
Just figured I'd share, I know we'll all miss him."
