Today: Go download the Dirty Projectors/Bjork collaboration
Last year, the Dirty Projectors and Bjork played a special show at the Housing Works bookstore, performing Mount Wittenberg Orca, a song cycle Dave Longstreth composed just for the occasion. Recently, they got back together to record those seven songs, and, unsurprisingly, it's really good - Bjork fits in perfectly here. Also of note: this collection includes "When the World Comes to an End," the song that won over ?uestlove on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (which eventually landed the band's three female vocalists a guest spot on the Roots' latest, How I Got Over). Mount Wittenberg Orca is available for download now here. These songs were inspired in part by vocalist-guitarist Amber Coffman seeing a family of whales in northern California, and they were originally performed at a benefit show, so all proceeds from this release are going to the National Geographic Society's Ocean
Initiative. The DPs will be at the Wilbur Theatre in September, which, yeah, you should probably go to that. Listen to "All We Are" below:
