Billboard Mag: Sam Adams sales came from over 100 markets

Further debunking the widespread rumor that overnight sensation SAM ADAMS inflated his chart-topping iTunes numbers by purchasing huge quantities his own digital EP, BILLBOARD MAGAZINE reported last week that, according to SoundScan, Adams' sales were evenly distributed throughout the country, concluding "So far, there isn't any evidence to support the blog-fueled allegations."

Here's the relevant quote:

"Nielsen SoundScan data shows that 22% of his sales came from the Boston area -- not surprising, considering the rapper is from there. Another 18% came from New York, where he recently presented a showcase. The remainder came from more than 100 markets nationwide, including Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington D.C., and no one market totaled more than 5%."

Anecdotally, it sure seems as if Boston's Boy pulled off an under-the-radar viral smash. We're still trolling the internets for clues, but Adams' supporters have suggested that skeptics look at sites like FratMusic.com to understand how his "I Hate College" spread essentially from dorm room to dorm room, or more specifically from keg party to keg party.
