As much as I want to hate Diplo for his success - and particularly for the number of sexually nihilistic dirtbag hotties who hump his turntables at parties - his music is just too damn inventive. He rarely bores me; as soon as Diplo senses that legionnaires are jocking his style, homeboy flips the script like an acrobatic thespian.
His latest Major Lazer collabo project with Switch (of Tricky production fame) is another big winner in the Mad Decent arsenal. The duo recorded the whole thing in Jamaica at the Tuff Gong labratory; they essentially just showed up with reggae-inspired madness and invited dancehall's biggest hitters to bless cuts.
For some background on the first single off Guns Don't Kill People...Lazers Do - "Hold the Line" with Mr. Lexx and Santigold - check this interview here. Apparently, Santi almost got herself stabbed. We also suggest copping the disc - as well as its corresponding iPhone app, iDrum, which was developed by the Boston-based audio technology group iZotope. You can grab those goodies HERE.
If you'd rather spend your last ducats on the actual House of Blues show (with A-Trak, Matt & Kim, and Steve Porter) this Thursday, though, there are still some tixx available HERE. They're only ten bucks! And son't stop there; check Switch and Diplo at Newbury Comics on Newbury Street at 6pm before the show, then snatch up THIS FREE Major Lazer iPhone app and be equipped with the raucous sound effects that fill their debut.
