Meet the Mayor: Boston Playwrights' Theatre
Welcome to "Meet the Mayor," a segment in which we interview local Foursquare Mayors in
their natural habitats.
Boston Playwrights' Theatre
MJ Halberstadt
So you're mayor
here, eh?
I'm a student at BU's MFA Playwriting program. My
classes take place twice a week here.
Working on any
interesting plays?
I've got one about a book club on Long
Island. Gossiping antics ensue.
Is there a
dinosaur in it?
No, not this one.
When 3D gimmicks
are needed to get people out to the movies, convince us to go see new plays.
Theater is always in 3D, first of all. There's nothing
like it. You get to see people you know, or people you bump into, putting on a
show. I think theater crowds tend to be smarter. I'm sure there are those who
would beg to differ, but theater is a great conversation to be a part of.
Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. Thoughts?
Ugh. I've only heard bad things. It's a shame that so
much money went into something that doesn't really say much and doesn't add to
the dialogue that is theater.
Isn't it
respectable how those actors are risking their lives?
Yeah, not only that, all that money could go into
something important. Or original. Or, at least, not hazardous.
