BEST 2012: Gay Night!

"Epic Saturdays" at the House of Blues

Now that, sadly, Enormous Room's doors are closed for good, it looks like a new winner will rise to take the spot of Best Gay Night...last held by "Group Hug". Gay, straight, questioning...whatever. These are the best nights in town for being your damn self and having a blast doing so. So you tell us...what's the hottest way to get little rowdy and let all your colors shine these days?

Don't Ask Don't Tell | Great Scott

1. Don't Ask Don't Tell | Great Scott

Currently rattling the rafters at Great Scott, D.A.D.T. resident DJs DJ Diver and DJ Drasher welcome guest artists for each installment of the monthly dance night open to anyone who wants to cast aside conventional (and restrictive labels) and get a little experimental. From video installments to performance art to a good, old-fashioned dance party throwdown, Don't Ask Don't Tell never offers the same experience twice.

Dyke Night | Machine [and other locations]

2. Dyke Night | Machine [and other locations]

Despite what the name might imply, Dyke Night isn't strictly for the ladies. And it isn't just one night. Open to the entire LGBT community (as well as any and all who show women the respect they deserve) Dyke Night is actually a platform that provides the queer community in Boston with dance nights, fundraisers, and more. Half party starters, part philanthropic venture Dyke Night is the force behind nights like "Second Saturdays" at Machine and "Fourth Fridays" at the Milky Way.

Epic Saturdays | House of Blues

3. Epic Saturdays | House of Blues

Ok, so the cover charge ($15) is a bit steep for some patrons, but many of those who miss Avalon agree that the huge-ass Saturday night dance takeover of the HoB has managed to capture the vibe of the defunct dance club. Strobe lights? Check. Attractive, well-dressed clientel shaking what their mommas gave 'em to pulsing club beats? Check, check.

Estate Thursdays | Estate

4. Estate Thursdays | Estate

The term "Glamlife"is realized in the manifestation of buff, well-groomed men who take over the downtown club come Thursday nights. A welcome reprieve from the scantily clad club chicks and older Euro-crowd gents scamming on said chicks the other nights of the weeK. Chris Harris DJs the hip-hop and Top 40s dance night.

Foxy Action Group | Zuzu

5. Foxy Action Group

Also not a night, per say, but hey, potato, potahto, right? The masterminds behind some of the hottest dance nights around town, the Foxy Action DJs-- James Cerne, Joseph Colbourne, and Nathanael Bluhm-- spin obscure disco, electro, and proto-house. To quote Cerne in a recent interview with Stuff magazine: "We're all about keeping the party loose, rambunctious, sexy, and wild. We're like shirtless gay warriors celebrating an epic victory on the battlefield: drinking cheap beer, dancing hard, chasing boys, and wreaking havoc." Sounds good to us, thanks.

Fur & Gold | Alley

6. Fur & Gold | Alley

The dudes behind Fur & Gold -- DJ Brent Covington and DJ Taffy -- recently celebrated two years of spinning an eclectic roster of chart-topping singles, 80s throwbacks, indie deep cuts, and more. On any given F&G night at the Alley you could be getting down to anything from Die Antwoord to the Violent Femmes, Debbie Harry to Erasure. And a lot more in between.
