On 9/11 weekend, the media is having some information security problems


Mainstream media: it's September 10. How's your information? Let's recap, shall we?

Example 1: TALKING POINT MEMO goes down under a distributed denial of service attack -- which may have been retribution for TPM publishing the mugshots of suspected Anonymous hackers. 

Example 2: Followers of the NBC News twitter learned of a horrifying airplane attack on ground zero. Just one problem: there wasn't one, and the tweet didn't come from NBC. They were hacked. The FBI is investigating.

It's not quite the infopolcaypse we warned about earlier this year, but on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, the media is being reminded -- up close and personal-like -- that the biggest threats to American security are likely to be electronic in nature
