What, Y? YMCA Down to Letter
A change is gonna come
Even though the YMCA has been around for almost two centuries, most of us didn’t get that it was geared towards young, Christian men thing until half way through high school. Unless you were a gay man in the 1970s. Then, in your heart of hearts, you always knew.
Now, in an effort to be young, the YMCA will literally be Young, dropping off its last three letters to be simply known as “Y,” its already popular nickname.
Kate Coleman, Y’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer explains that “It’s a way of being warmer, more genuine, more welcoming, when you call yourself what everyone else calls you.”
Publicists for Jesse James, Tiger Woods, and Roman Polanski have not responded when asked if their clients will take up the names that they have been recently associated with in an effort to be “more welcoming.”
