Interview: Designer-turned-director Tom Ford on film, fashion, and lumberjack chic

Gucci mane: Tom Ford

Former Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent creative director TOM FORD made the jump to Hollywood with his surprisingly well-received A SINGLE MAN,  an adaptation of the Christopher Isherwood novel that's garnered three Golden Globes nominations, including Colin Firth for best actor and a best-supporting-actress nod for Julianne Moore. Not bad for a first-time director tackling a book that was long considered unfilmable. Even our own hard-to-please Peter Keough rated it three-out-of-four stars, praising Ford's "masterful restraint with a loaded subject" -- namely, a middle-aged gay man mourning the death of his lover. (It's currently playing locally at the Kendall and the Coolidge -- click here for showtimes.)

Ford called in to the WFNX studios to talk about the Golden Globes, making the transition from fashion to film, and even bestowed some style advice upon FNX's ever-unfashionable Fletcher and Keith Dakin. Listen to the full interview below:
