Schick Says: Trim Your Bush

Mary, Mary, quite contrary…

So this new ad for the pube-friendly Schick Quattro - in which the euphemism for bush shaving is “mow the lawn” - is raising several questions: how come Brits lose their accents when they sing; why does England get all the good commercials; and, of course, is this spot offensive to women?

The feminist blogosphere spent much of last week passing judgment on the advertisement, which, naturally, this misogynistic monkey finds hilarious (listen for the part about how “tulips” should be the only thing left on the mound). Forced venom spilled in many forms; some Jezebel dames were perturbed at the insinuation that women are expected to trim, while others disapprove of the reality that black women are hairier than Asian chicks.

The women at Living with the Boyfriend had a predictable knee-jerk reaction to the spot: they’re sure a man came up with the concept. Since the logic behind that one was hardly explained, I’ll assume they thought the idea was too clever for a woman to have hatched it ((s)natch). But what do they know about keeping neat anyway? I mean - they live with their boyfriends.

And one more thing - to all the female comment mongers who insist that they mow the lawn for themselves: bullshit. In this economy, razors are way too expensive to waste on personal pride.
