See this film series: "Castles in the Sky: Miyazaki, Takahata, and the Masters of Studio Ghibli" @ the Brattle

Princess Mononoke

Along with Pixar, Japan's Studio Ghibli has revitalized the art of animation, and even more than their American counterparts they tap into a genuinely weird, surreal inventiveness. The Brattle gathers together some of their best work in the series "Castles in the Sky: Miyazaki, Takahata, and the Masters of Studio Ghibli" beginning with Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke (1997). It's a tale of Tolkien-esque complexity and scope rendered into images of breathtaking grace, wit, and ingenuity. The Brattle Theatre is at 40 Brattle St, Cambridge | Friday, August 31 @ 4:15 + 7 + 9:45 pm [also playing Monday] | $9.75; $7.75 students; $6.75 seniors | 617.876.6837 or brattlefilm.org.
