See this film: Outside Satan @ the MFA
The MFA
continues its outstanding Boston French Film Festival with Outside Satan (2011), in
which Bruno Dumont brings his bleak eye for landscape and his even bleaker
insight into human nature to a tale about a charismatic stranger passing
through a desolate seacoast village. The visitor has strange powers and
performs apparent miracles. When he helps an abused local woman, however, it
seems that he might be too good to be true. As in previous films like Hadewijch and Humanité, Dumont himself remains neutral, evoking transcendence
without judgment. It screens Saturday, July 21 at 8 pm and Sunday, July 22 at 1 pm at the Museum
of Fine Arts, 465 Huntington Ave, Boston | $11; $9 students, seniors |
