If you're looking for a bit of a breather from the
increasingly vicious Presidential campaign by checking out "The Dark Knight
Rises" this weekend, you might be disappointed. At least according to some
pundits, who think the issues are being acted out metaphorically in the
film. I don't think I'd be giving away
any spoilers by pointing out that the bad guy that the billionaire superhero
Batman fights is called "Bane," not unlike the "Bain" corporation that is so much
a topic of controversy these days. Well, the coincidence has not gone unnoticed
by some commentators, nor have the film's possible political interpretations.
But is Bane a metaphor for conservatives or
liberals? For rich people who cause economic inequality
or for those who
demonstrate against it?
Maybe we'll just have to wait for the election to find
Meanwhile, if you're a critic and have any plans of voting no on
the film itself, take heed from this.
