See this film: Singin' in the Rain [60th Anniversary Event] @ Regal Fenway
Maybe what we
need is a film as great as Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly's Singin' in the Rain
(1952), which took a bittersweet look at the transition from silent movies to
talkies, to do the same for the ongoing switch from cinema as we know it to the
digitalized, CGI-produced whatever-it-is-becoming. In the meantime you can
still enjoy the "TCM Presents Singin' in
the Rain 60th Anniversary Event," which will be showing a remastered print
of the classic on the big screen. That's the way scenes like the title
production number - not only one of the
greatest in movie-musical history, but also one of the most self-reflexive - were meant to be seen. The show also includes
a video of TCM's Robert Osborne interviewing Kelly's co-star Debbie Reynolds,
and it takes place at the Regal Fenway 13, 201 Brookline Ave, Boston | Thursday, July 12 @ 7 pm |
