See this film: Bay of All Saints @ the Brattle
Sometimes two good causes, like housing for the poor
and environmental protection, can come into conflict. That sounds like what
happens in Bay of All Saints, a
documentary about impoverished people in Bahia, Brazil who live in palafitas,
hovels on stilts built above the sea of garbage amassing in the bay. The
filmmakers spent six years chronicling the hardships of three of the families
living there, putting unforgettable faces on the abstract issues and
statistics. It screens as part of the DocYard program, with the director Annie
Eastman and producer Diane Markow on hand for discussion. It takes place at the
Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St, Cambridge | Monday, June 4 @ 8 pm | 617.876.6837 or brattle.org.
