See this film: Poison at the Brattle

Those people at the MPAA sure have some funny ideas about what constitutes a dirty movie. They may have changed the rating of Blue Valentine from NC-17 to R, but Todd Haynes's Poison (1991) still bears its "No One Under 17 Admitted" stigma proudly. Inspired by the writings of Jean Genet, it's a triptych of stories in different styles: lurid crime drama, campy horror film, Fassbinder-like prison love story. But the 15 frames displaying an erect penis did it in. Be alert and you just might glimpse that when the film screens today through Monday at the Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St, Cambridge | January 7-9 @ 7:30 + 9:30 pm; January 10 @ 5:30 + 7:30 + 9:30 pm | $6.75-$9.75 | 617.876.6837 or brattlefilm.org.
