Weekly Playlist #20: Magic Man, Vary Lumar, Bear Language, Burglary Years

MAGIC MAN have been shrouded in mystery the past few years. First surfacing out of Providence in 2010 as a duo parked behind laptops, debut LP Real Life Color shared much DNA with the likes of MGMT and Passion Pit, especially the single, "Monster," which found a home on WFNX's Boston Accents. After relative silence since, they’re now reborn as a full five-piece synthpop band in bubbly new electronic pop single “Paris,” a warm, engaging track that suggests an identity all their own. It's certain to create a playful tug-of-war between Boston and New York City.
This week’s mix also features new material from the multi-textured, prog-rock indie stylings of VARY LUMAR (the standout track off their new downloadable EP Capture) and BEAR LANGUAGE, who are headed down to Austin for SXSW and return home with a gig at the Middle East on March 30. Our mix closes with a 2012 demo cut from modern rock upstarts BURGLARY YEARS, who we fell in love with after they opened for Beach Fossils and Orca Orca last weekend at T.T. The Bear's Place. Expect great things from them in 2013.
Actually, expect a great year ahead for everyone involved here.
