New record shop coming to Jamaica Plain
RAD NEWS: Jamaica Plain is getting a new record shop. Guerilla Toss member/local show booker Peter Negroponte and Nick Williams (of Cave Bears and One Kind Favor Records, and also a former employee of Feeding Tube Records in Western Mass) have secured a space on South Street for DEEP THOUGHTS JP. Based on the experiences of these two dudes within the experimental and underground music communities in Boston as well as nationally and internationally, this shop is likely to totally rule. According to what they've posted on their Facebook so far, the shop will host shows regularly, which is exciting and makes me think that just like Weirdo Records in Cambridge this will have more of a "community space" vibe to it than your typical record shop. Here's what they wrote:
"Nick Williams & Peter Negroponte are opening a record store, DEEP THOUGHTS
JP, and we want to buy your records.....that's Jamaica Plain in Boston
folks, but we're buying from people all over the northeast. if you are
anywhere within 4 hours (or more) from us, we'll probably be coming your
way sometime soon and would love to meet up. so, yeah, sell us your
60s-2000s rock / jazz / experimental / international
/ folk / soul .. regular classic rock junk, ltd. edition, crazy noise,
punk, psychedelic hell ride... anything really. Also looking for noise
tapes or any contemporary cassette releases. maybe some CDs (japanese
stuff, modern classical, etc). Will pay ca$h or offer future store
credit. also RECORD AND TAPE LABELS: get in touch, cause we want to
fully represent the USA and international underground everywhere +
EVERYTHING. plus ++ accepting donations of more beat up stuff if you
just want it out of your house. THIS IS GOING TO BE THE BEST RECORD
STORE EVER and you will all be amazed. We're going to have shows every
week and no one will ever have a bad time at DEEP THOUGHTS."
