Weekly Playlist #13: Guillermo Sexo, Ho-Ag, Trabants feat. Prom Queen, Ex-Magicians
Our inaugural playlist of 2013 is hellbent for fuzz, kicking off with a ferocious track from indie veterans GUILLERMO SEXO. “Echo Out My Call” is a buzzed-out call-to-arms, and the first serving off the band’s new EP Bring Down Your Arms, out digitally this week. Rueben Bettsak of GSexo will be a guest on Boston Accents today, January 17, debuting his band's new songs and selecting other faves from around town (5pm EST, wfnx.net).
From there, the fuzz-torch is then passed to HO-AG, who lit their period of silence on fire late last month with the schitzo “See You At The Brush Pass,” a mind-warped teaser for a new record out in February, celebrating appropriately with a release party February 21 at Oberon on a redonkulous bill with Hallelujah The Hills and Dear Leader, who are also both releasing singles on this glorious evening.
Surf-rock bandits TRABANTS have been splitting coasts lately now that Eric Penna is in a California state of mind, but are back in action January 26 at Precinct with Beware the Dangers of a Ghost Scorpion, and their new ballady jam “Motionless” features some sterling guest vocals from a Seattle singer known as Prom Queen.
And closing us out on the highway of sound is “Adirondack Bound,” 124-seconds of guitar-pop bliss from EX-MAGICIANS, who crash Radio this Saturday on a bill with Doom Lover (their grand premiere), Nervous, and Vegans. We originally thought Nervous Vegans was one band, because we know many of those, but they are two completely separate acts. Dig it.
