UPDATE: Speedy Ortiz can't make it out from NoHo due to the snow outside, so Varsity Drag are filling in. Gonna shake up my WFNX playlist @ 5pm and add "Billy Ruane." Listen in at WFNX.com.
Very fitting that on a day where My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields announced a follow-up his 1991 shoegaze classic Loveless, there will be lots of beautiful sonic sludge thrown around within the friendly walls of Great Scott. Tonight in Allston, the Clicky Clicky music blog, so much a champion of the shoegaze genre that it released a cover compilation of Boston bands recreating Ride's Nowhere earlier this year, has pulled together four sterling bands proficient in the aural arts to benefit Jamaica Plain meal-distribution organization Community Servings. The lineup is a doozy, sure to whip up a cardigan pit on the checkered floor of Great Scott, featuring: the colorful psychedelic rock of GUILLERMO SEXO (featuring Reuben Bettsak, who directed the new Ryan Lee Crosby music video that was released this week); The UK's JOHNNY FOREIGNER, whose rock and roll songwriting prowess is as tight as the denim around their calves; Northampton's SPEEDY ORTIZ, our carefully brash Massachusetts pick in this summer's 50 Bands 50 States; and INFINITY GIRL, Cambridge's newest torch-bearers for whatever-gaze who levy noisy destruction with startling ease. That's a lot of loud. EDIT: Now with VARSITY DRAG.
We'd also be remiss if we didn't mention that Clicky Clicky is the music blog of Jay Breitling, a fairly recent addition to the Phoenix's music staff. In fact, we were so impressed with his contribution to the Blog Page in our recent Best Music Poll, that we asked him to freelance for us in the semi-reg. Here are his Off The Record reviews of Sun Airway and Dinosaur Jr., and Cellars feature on Pile.
The man can write as well as he can book a show.
So yeah: good show, good people, good cause. There's even a cool promotional video, which you can spy on below.
