[staff spinz] Zodiac Feat. Jesse Boykins III, "Come"
From
our latest feature in today's print edition of the Phoenix Staff Spinz
highlights what we're playing these days in our newsroom...
ZODIAC Feat. Jesse
Boykins III "Come" [Vase] -- Witch house season is upon us. In the many moons since Salem's inception, we've joked here at the Phoenix
that the autumnal equinox seems to bring about a spike in occult
nuances in the music we listen to. Well, it's not funny anymore, and
this purple-and-black-tinged slow-burner from former Weeknd producer
Jeremy Rose is evidence of just how serious it is. We may be reaching a
bit by labeling this witch house -- when in all actuality it's probably a
mere extension of the debaucherously detached R&B that Rose allegedly helped
birth on House of Balloons
-- but hey, it's October and almost Halloween and who really knows what
the fuck witch house is anyways. Zodiac's self-titled EP is out now and
it's worth your effort to track down. Outside the crawling R&B,
there's the slo-mo trance of "138" and some screwed-up snap on "So Soon
We Change." So you know, variety, or whatever.
In
all sincerity, I wanted to make the below video my selection for Staff
Spinz this week, but I figured that I would spare the design staff the
trouble of having to format all of those ▲s on the page.
