[mp3 of the week] Western Education "Young Love" /// Friday @ McGann's Pub

Most business is conducted via the internet these days, but rock bands are still forming the old fashioned way: by responding to DIY flyers posted on bulletin boards at practice spaces, hip neighborhoods, and colleges. Early last year, Greg Alexandropoulos plastered a notice throughout the halls of the music department of UMass-Lowell looking to start an alt-rock band with electronic leanings, and shortly thereafter WESTERN EDUCATION was born. Taking their name from their early vision of melodies, harmonies, and chord progressions being “western educated,” the fledgling band combines elements of post-hardcore and synthpop for one explosively polished package. Standout single “Young Love,” off March’s self-titled debut EP, is a fresh blast of indietronica that suggests a pretty bright future. Grab the mp3 below, and catch Western Education at McGann’s Pub near North Station on August 10 as part of Citywide Blackout and Plectrum Entertainment’s summer closeout showcase.
