[awesome video alert] Pretty & Nice "Yonkers"
Yonkers, New York, is just one of those cities that you continuously think is in New Jersey until one of your friends says that he’s from there and corrects you. It’s got a population of roughly 150,000 people, and is memorable for being the home of DMX, Jadakiss, and Jon Voight. Thankfully, Nebraska’s Love Drunk Studio saw fit to film PRETTY & NICE playing their new single in order to make the home of America’s first golf course stick to our imaginations. Or, you know, to showcase a great band playing a great song.
The video captures the bouncy-as-fuck righteousness that is Pretty & Nice’s specialty, and was shot in a single take, which is always pretty awesome. Love Drunk also gains points for setting the video in “a Boston attic decorated by flower children” which looks like the awesome parties that you never went to in college. You’d be “bonkers” to hate it, especially since everybody manages to get through a song called “Yonkers” without threatening to stab Bruno Mars in the throat.
A team of Love Drunk videographers is currently touring the east coast and trying to spread the gospel of Nebraska pop musics while showcasing the best bands they can find, and the results are worth watching and keeping track of. Also, visit the website of their main sponsor, Hear Nebraska. From the looks of it, it doesn’t seem to be a tribute site to one of the Boss’ best records, which is a bummer, but contains lots of rad tunes by Nebraska-based artists, which is swell.
Nick Johnston is the brand new summer music intern here at the Boston Phoenix, and today is his first day. Welcome to the team.
