[put that shit on the list] Live dubstep courtesy of Pinn Panelle tonight @ Throwed

Remember last week when the session drummer from Jack Black and Juliette Lewis' TV bands went on the Grammys and said all that racist shit against DJs right before performing with Deadmaus5? Awkward. A couple days ago he put out a pretty funny, lengthy, and charming apology, in which he said, in part “I don't know how to do what Skrillex does (though I fucking love it) but I do know that the reason he is so loved is because he sounds like Skrillex, and that's badass. We have a different process and a different set of tools, but the 'craft' is equally as important, I'm sure. I mean.....if it were that easy, anyone could do it, right? (See what I did there?)"

Maybe he could do what Skrillex does though? Maybe we're not so different, after all, those of us who manipulate one type of machine to produce a sound and those who manipulate another type of machine to produce a sound? Just ask these broz in the Boston-based PINN PANELLE, a dubstep band from Berklee (oh word?), who perform live covers of songs by Skrillex, Nero, Rusko and the like. Here they are doing Skrillex's "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites." The video has over 3.5 million views. Most of them are from Dave Grohl I'm guessing.

Pretty impressive, right? This sort of approach to EDM does solve one of the biggest drawbacks of the genre though, I have to say, which is that watching a guy pump his fists and party-his-effing-balls-off behind a computer at a live show is kind of :/. With these huge new advances in dubstep science, now you can watch dudes with pink highlights in their hair put their fingers on things in a specific order, which is one of the bedrocks of authentic, respectable entertainment.

Pinn Panelle are going to FUCKING RAGE (did I say that right?) Tuesday, February 21 at THROWED! at the Middle East Downstairs in Cambridge.
