[winter preview] Saturday: Darling Pet Munkee @ Radio, Peter Buzzelle @ McGann's
Here's a quick Friday afternoon double shot from last month's Winter Music Preview, where we hyped ten record release parties around town. This weekend -- tomorrow night, to be exact -- welcomes the unleashing of new material from fuzzy punk trio DARLING PET MUNKEE and rock and roll veteran PETER BUZZELLE. Here's what we said, back in our look ahead:
DARLING PET MUNKEE | Radio | January 14 | You can't keep Michael J. Epstein down. He of minimalist stomp-rock duo Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling and his very own Memorial Library returns with partner-in-crime Sophia Cacciola and Axemunkee's Cathy Capozzi in fuzzy trio Darling Pet Munkee, a psych-out garage-pop surf crew that writes songs only about items once sold in the back of comic books ("X-Ray Specs," "Sea-Monkeys"). It started as a one-off, but after all seven tracks off Glows in the Dark! were gleefully banged out over a weekend, a new band was born, creating one Munkee not going to musical heaven.

PETER BUZZELLE | McGann's Irish Pub | January 14 | More than a decade after he left the Northwest and the Olympia-based noise-pop band he founded, Frequency dB, Peter Buzzelle is poised for a renaissance. The independent singer/songwriter, who delivers crystal-clear vocals over power-pop melodies with alarming ease, drops new full-length Museum Of on the outskirts of the Boston music scene. But one listen to single "67 Mustang" makes you wonder why he's not rubbing elbows with the usual power-pop crews of Central Square.
