The FAT CREEPS are the sound of sweet, sensual musical ennui. Within the depths of 2011’s tastemaker network of bedrooms, all-ages spaces, and the underbelly of the Boston blogosphere, the hypnotic weed-smoke strum of “Nancy Drew” swam effortlessly from one ear to another, living only on Bandcamp and the eager fingertips of late-night Internet messengers. But 2012 should provide more than word-of-mouth attraction for this trio of gals who perform live in spandex and helmets. The Fat Creeps will spend the New Year crafting music videos and releasing a proper demo, no doubt building on one of the best lyrics of recent months: “I’m in the mood for romance, but you’re just not that kind of lad/You hit me up for 20 dollars, and now I’m feelin’ pretty bad.” You can offer to repay their debt tonight at Precinct in Union Square, when the Creeps get sassy in Somerville alongside Banditas, Bunny’s a Swine, and Mail the Horse. But beforehand, grab the “Nancy Drew” MP3 right about now.
