Photos: Live from the Fillmore, Metallica wraps up 30th birthday stand with Ozzy, Geezer, Mustaine, tribute to Burton
Our fearless leader Brad Mindich is out in San Francisco with Metallica as the band celebrates its 30th anniversary with a string of once-in-a-lifetime gigs at the Fillmore. Here's his photos and report from last night:
If you're a Metallica fan these four shows at the Fillmore were everything you could have hoped for from the masters of metal.
Each night different guests appeared to share the stage in celebration of Metallica's 30th anniversary. From Kid Rock to Rob Halford to childhood friends of the band, to the You Tube couple whose video of them playing Metallica songs at their wedding became a viral sensation, to a guy who's been to more than 190 Metallica concerts, these were fan experiences more than shows.
The intimate setting of the Fillmore with only room for Metallica Fan Club fans - and at a $6.00 ticket - was probably a once in a fan's lifetime experience and you felt like part of the band's family. Even the Hells Angels were there just to enjoy.
The final night featured guest appearances by Geezer and Ozzy himself playing "Iron Man" with Metallica serving as the house band, Kill Em All-era Metallica original members like Dave Mustaine and 'those who had had enough' like Jason Newstead shared the stage with the mighty four.
All of these shows were filmed so even if you weren't there expect to see them somewhere very soon. In the meantime, here's a few glimpses at what went down:
