[video] Earthquake Party + The New Highway Hymnal, live @ PA's Lounge
Union Square in Somerville certainly was blowing the fuck up this past Friday night. Not only did Radio open in grand fashion with the likes of the Organ Beats and Sidewalk Driver christening the new venue in glittery rock delight, but down the fine street of Somerville Avenue two of On The Download's new favorite Boston-area bands were ripping the roof off PA's Lounge.
To hype the show in last week's Phoenix, we put the Vandelles in the headlines, and for good reason: the noisy Brooklyn/DC noir-pop surf'd-out co-eds put on a fine rock and roll show. But they had some tough acts to follow in hometown slices EARTHQUAKE PARTY! and THE NEW HIGHWAY HYMNAL, both of which seem poised for great things to round out 2k11.
Obviously, we hyped the shit out of E-Party over the summer -- best new band in Massachusetts, kids! -- but we're pleased to announce their debut three-track EP, recorded at Esthudio in Brighton and featuring the tracks "Brains!," "Nails And Hammer," and "Pretty Little Hand," should soon see the light of day. Grab our live Earthquake Party EP off Bandcamp if you haven't already, and peep the Mick Murray-captured video, posted above. EP! covering Suicide? You don't need to be Evan Kenney to get off on that sweetness.
Now, leading up to Friday, there seemed to be some brief confusion as to if the newest Pride of Haverhill, the New Highway Hymnal, were actually on the bill or not. But judging from the below clip, also shot by Murray, the Hymnals owned it like they created it. With the help of WFNX, we also did a Bandcamp with these young dirty soul rebels back in August, so snag that fucker and kick back on this loose Tuesday with ten glorious minutes of bluesy, old fashioned rock and roll fury.
Oh and hey -- New Highway Hymnal start their Precinct residency tonight, right around the corner from PAs. Hit that up, December Sound playing too whaaaaaaaaaaaaa...
